Things I know

Well, I have made it through my very first semester of college at FIT in New York City. This is what I have gotten from the experience so far:

-I made some absolutely amazing friends.

-I completed two handbags and 1.5 pair of shoes.

-I learned how to live successfully on my own.

-I am addicted to Trader Joe's freeze dried strawberries

-I have learned how to live off of only bread and coffee because I spent my grocery money on a necklace.

-I know how to get around New York City without a map (most of the time)

-I judge the construction of all of the shoes in department stores.

-I am addicted to One Direction, Lana Del Rey and K-Pop

-I miss football games

-I know a little bit of polish...

-I can sew

-Babysitting is the best job in the world.

-Stalking celebrities is an art form

-I have visited the Whitney and the Met

-People in New York don't understand my friendliness

-I need business cards

-Don't look at people on the subway

-Walking 30 blocks isn't that bad

-The best Thai Food can be found at Room Service on 8th avenue in between 18th and 19th

-I like cooking

-In the winter the city grows cabbage in the flower beds on the sidewalks.

-and most of all, now that I am home for break in Wichita... I miss New York more than I thought I would... I guess this means that I truly do belong there. New York is now my home.

I cannot wait to start next semester. I wonder what it will bring.

You guys

A couple of photos that I don't really know what to do with from NYFW

I really love the slicked back hair on men. It just makes them look so put together and handsome. Can't wait til the next NYFW. I really need to snap more men's fashions!

What's that Jacket?

Who is ready for Maison Martin Margiela for H&M to drop at 8am??

When I first saw this look book a couple months ago I kinda freaked. The clothes were fantastic--not to mention everything I was imagining my closet to be for this fall/winter season. The looks matched every expectation I was looking for in my clothes: innovative ideas, cool trims, sleek boots, slouchy--yet curiously fitted figures:

I am obsessed with how they put together their accessories. Using actual gloves as part of the handbags was a genius idea. I love how flat they look--as if you could just slip your hand right into them. I also am loving the candy wrapper clutches. They are HUGE! By themselves, on the website, they look so tiny. I was so excited to see how large they were compared to the models. They are eye catching and so imaginative--makes me want to brainstorm about what my next handbag will look like for my final project of this semester.

Unfortunately for me, little miss Rachel can't afford these fab pieces... but I mean.. what college student could? Maybe one item but... let's be honest here... I really should be saving more than spending...

I am just glad that looking and touching is free (and not frowned upon) in H&M. I am ready to inspect the pieces and try them on. I want to see if they feel as luxurious as they seem. The fabrics in the pictures look so soft... but that can be deceiving. I guess we will all find out tomorrow then won't we??

Good thing it is my day off from classes!... lets hope there is still items to look at when I arrive!

Did I miss some fabulous yet gaudy wedding around the corner?

Why can't I tell if this is good or bad? Help me now.

Confused.

Suit up

Can we take a moment to admire how fantastic this ensemble is? It looks stunning on this chick who is just casually walking in Lincoln Center towards the tents. I feel that her skin tone and jet black hair work like MAGIC with her jumpsuit. Her hair kinda morphs into the suit and ends with that little touch of magnetic red on her lips. So now when she walks she looks like this multicolored printed being with porcelain beams coming out the sides.

Wow. Too much amazing.

Karlie Takes the Cut

When I saw Bryan Boy tweet about Karlie's new cut last Wednesday I was both surprised and excited. I clicked (or rather touched) quickly through to the Twit-pic to find a semi-blurred Karlie with a short bob-do:
Now, I can't decide people. Is it right?

Originally I loved it! I thought it was adorable and fresh. She has had long hair for so long that I was loving the sudden change. However the more I see it the more I am not sure... I feel that her longer strands made her look older... and now... she kinda looks 12.

Not that 12 is bad--It is just that most in demand top models in the world shouldn't look twelve.

...or should they?

I also started realizing that usually these drastic changes make the model edgier... even older! However on Karlie, they just look plain. Her hair doesn't have the right beef or texture for a bob. It is too thin maybe?

But then I look at it a third time and I love it. It is fresh, new, and makes me look at her jaw and bone structure differently than before. The tips of the cut draw you to her chin rather than her chest. It also showcases her striking hazel eyes--They pop more now that they are framed by the bangs and natural waves in her hair.
I honestly cannot decide on what my feelings are about it. They are jumbled up in a mess of confused emotion... What are your thoughts? Would love to hear--comment below!

Friends

I practically sprinted across the street to snag some pictures of these two. --thankfully there were no cars-- I saw them from afar and almost had a heart attack. They were both too good not to photograph. His sunglasses and color combos with her white and light-airy dress... they just fit so well together. I really love how fresh their outfits look... and HIS HAIR--Long locks from heaven.

Gave me chills to see these two strut around. They know whats up.

And She was Perfect, and She was Perfect

This woman really stopped me in my tracks at Lincoln Center. She was perfect. From her beaded clutch to her top knot.. I just couldn't stop staring.

Cat eye sunglasses seem to be all the rage for this season. I caught quite a few fantastic people sporting the fun frames. Last fashion week I bought a pair and that purchase actually turned out to be one of my best buys of the week. Seriously, snag a pair if you find them at a good deal. They spice up any outfit and you will turn heads. Everyone loves staring at interesting people and these shades sure make your face look interesting.

New York's A Beach

After spending hours inside my apartment hiding from the storm of the year, Sandy, I decided it was time to go and take a look around the city. It is weird how stir crazy one gets after just spending more than 24 hours in their home.

I went to put on my warmer clothes-- scarf, socks, sweater, coat, jeans... now I need shoes.... wait.

I soon realized that I had no shoes that were fit for the weather that I was about to endure. I had some tennis shoes.. but what I really needed was a pair of goulashes  When I moved here I completely over looked the fact that I may be needing a pair of rain boots. After all, coming from Kansas, I really had no need for them before. Yes, it rains in Kansas, but I had a car--I wasn't walking everywhere and actually using my shoes in inclement weather. However now that walking is my only way of transportation I need some nice, fashion friendly, rain boots!

 ..... but where to look??

Help a girl out? Time to go check out my favorite store..... Ebay.
